We stopped during the middle of the first night across the great expanse in a town called Kalgoorlie - a mining town, complete with brothels and not much else. This is pretty much the world’s largest open pit mine - a gold mine. It runs w/o stop, virtually every day of the year. They excavate a section after dinamite blasting a bit of earth away, filling these massive trucks with earth to be sifted thru, and something like every 7 mind bogglingly large truck loads yields an ounce of gold.
